3rd World Lack of Water for First Nations in Canada as Nestle profits, Take Action Sacred Activist!
Aries still has me fired up with Sacred Warrior energy standing up to protect what it loves and values. The Sacred Warrior is needed in this world, to protect the innocent, to call us all out to stand for what is right and to make right the wrongs in the world! You are the one who is needed now and I often find myself in harmony with author and Sacred Activist, John Perkins. He is proof that men can change from greed to good and correct the wrongs in the world as he shifted Economic Hitman to Sacred Activist.
"Economic hit men (EHMs) are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. They funnel money from the World Bank, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and other foreign "aid" organizations into the coffers of huge corporations and the pockets of a few wealthy families who control the planet’s natural resources. Their tools include fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder. They play a game as old as empire, but one that has taken on new and terrifying dimensions during this time of globalization. I should know; I was an EHM."
— John Perkins, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man
John Perkins was the Chief Economist at a major international consulting firm, in that role he advised the World Bank, United Nations, IMF, U.S. Treasury Department, Fortune 500 companies and the leaders of countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. His latest book brings it up to date and provides practical strategies to transform the failing global death economy into a regenerative life economy. John Perkins is a founder and board member of Dream Change and The Pachamama Alliance. These are two wonderful non-profit organizations devoted to establishing a world future that generations will want to inherit. John Perkins has also lectured at Harvard, Oxford, and over 50 other universities around the world, and is the author of books on indigenous cultures and transformation. John has been featured on ABC, NBC, CNN, the History Channel, Time, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Der Spiegel, and many other publications, as well as in numerous documentaries. In 2012, John Perkins was awarded the Lennon Ono Grant for Peace, and in 2016, he was awarded the Rainforest Action Network Challenging Business As Usual Award.
John Perkins has seen the signs of today’s financial meltdown before. The subprime mortgage fiasco, the collapse of the banking industry, the rising unemployment rate--these are all familiar to him.
He was on the front lines of monitoring and helping create these very events that were once just confined to the third world. From ’71 to 1981, he worked for the international consulting firm Chase T. Main. Excerpt from Amy Goodman's interview with John Perkins about his new book, Hoodwinked: An Economic Hit Man Reveals Why the World Financial Markets Imploded and What We Need to Do to Remake Them. He is asked to explain what an economic hit man does and states, "Economic hit men have managed to create the world’s first truly global empire. And it’s basically a secret empire. We do it in many ways, but principally, we identify a country that has resources that corporations covet, like oil, arrange a huge loan to that country from the World Bank or one of its sisters. The money never actually goes to the country; it goes to our own corporations to build the infrastructure projects in that country that help a few very wealthy people, but don’t benefit the majority of the people, who are too poor to buy electricity or have cars to drive on the highways. And yet, they’re left holding a huge debt that they can’t repay. So we go back at some point and say, “You know, you can’t pay your debts. Give us a pound of flesh. Sell your oil real cheap to our oil companies. Vote with us on the next critical UN vote. Allow us to build a military base in your backyard.” Something along these lines." Right now we can support a better world by understanding what is happening in Canada with water and big corporations profiting as indigenous people live in third world conditions in a first world country. Nestle' has been given the rights to come and draw water for their businesses to profit off the land that is supposed to provide resources to the indigenous people first!
Excerpt below from The Guardian article, "While Nestlé extracts millions of litres from their land, residents have no drinking water", by Alexandra Shimo. "Water is also supposed to be regulated by the federal government, which is responsible for the natural environment and Canada’s waterways. And, according to the Canadian constitution, the federal government has a “duty to accommodate and consult” First Nations and to make sure other parties do the same when extracting any natural resource, including water, from indigenous land. This legal ambiguity has allowed Nestlé to move in and extract precious water on expired permits for next to nothing. Nestlé pays the province of Ontario $503.71 (US$390.38) per million litres. But they pay the Six Nations nothing." (see full article here) The income that could be flowing into the First Nation community to secure clean use of their own water is not being negotiated because the community is not consulted. Please pass this blog post on to raise awareness and take one action that will generate change. Post on Nestle's Facebook page, contribute to fundraising for legal action to uphold treaties with Indigenous people, or use this petition link if you live in Canada to let your voice be heard! We begin with the power of dance and the Sacred Hula, as dance has been used for thousands of years all over the world to create culture and help community members embody belief systems.
We have forgotten that all creation begins within, with our own bodies and through our individual power being harnessed and directed with conscious intent. These traditions are often lost and destroyed in crisis and victimization during take overs and replaced with consumer idealism, dependency and cycles of trauma. Through the Sacred Hula we return to ancient indigenous cultural ways and values as we embody Aloha for a better world!
